Statistically, Iceland is usually divided into 8 regions: Capital Region, Southern Peninsula, West, Westfjords, Northwest, Northeast, East and South. These divisions are intended to assist with planning a holiday in Iceland, and are therefore primarily geographical, rather than administrative.
